To use the Cannon effectively, securely tape it to the butt in a comfortable position above or behind the spool rim. This will allow ample space for the bale arm to rotate freely.
Release the trigger and pass the line from the spool over the capstan. Then, depress the trigger with the bale arm. The cast is made as normal by releasing the trigger at the precise moment.
The additional power generated by the Cannon necessitates the use of heavy shock leaders, preferably around 60lb BS, for safety reasons.
When casting on a crowded beach, be mindful of your position and casting style. Choose a method that will project the terminal tackle harmlessly seaward should a breakage occur at any stage during the cast.
